Committee Responsibilities
- Assess and advise on the adequacy of the program’s facilities and equipment.
- Assist with employer surveys and employment forecasts.
- Promote the program to industry, business and the community.
- Assist, when necessary, with the revision of the curriculum to meet changing needs of students, business, industry and the community.
- Help locate and recommend experts and technical resource personnel.
- Assist with arrangements for tours and field trips to appropriate businesses and industries.
- Recommend resource materials for the LCCC Library.
- Assist in securing additional funding (beyond state funding) to improve the curriculum and program.
- Assist with long-range program planning.
- Advise instructors about changing professional qualifications.
- Assist instructors in keeping current with new methods and processes in their fields.
- Assist instructors with annual program evaluation and measuring overall program effectiveness.
- Assist instructors in obtaining the most appropriate equipment and instructional aids for the curriculum.
- Assist with the placement of program graduates in business and industry.
- Assist in the development of students’ internships and cooperative education training sites.
- Recommend prospective students for LCCC scholarships.
Program Director’s or Dean's Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as general consultant to the advisory committee.
- Establish meeting dates and times in consultation with the advisory committee chairperson.
- Make provisions for meeting rooms.
- Provide for the recording of the meeting.
- Send notices of meetings to all committee members and appropriate college personnel.
- Review recommendations for advisory committee members.
- Send copies of minutes to committee members and appropriate college personnel no later than two weeks after the meeting.
- Provide statistical information concerning student placement.
- Provide clerical, mail and telephone services, as appropriate.
- Notify members one week prior to meeting.
- Assist the committee to function within its scope of operation as determined by LCCC.
- Review meeting agenda with appropriate faculty; arrange for presenters, supportive materials and reports with college personnel.
- Inform advisory committee members when their recommendations have been accepted and implemented.
- Send follow-up reports to committee members regarding the effectiveness of their recommendations.
- Report to advisory committee members when their proposals and recommendations cannot be accepted or implemented, clearly stating the reasons for nonacceptance.
Chairperson’s Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare the meeting agenda in consultation with the division dean and faculty.
- Identify committee functions in cooperation with the division dean.
- Maintain necessary contact with other committee members.
- Appoint subcommittees when appropriate.
- Make reports as required.
- Represent advisory committee when requested.
Chairperson is elected by the committee for a one-year term.
