FAQ for Students

Students have lots of questions when considering making on-campus housing part of their college career. Check out the list below to get some answers.
 
Why should I live somewhere with a bunch of rules?
While the Residence Hall does have rules, they certainly are not set up to make sure you don't have a good time! As a resident, you have the right to a safe, clean and well-maintained Residence Hall. So the rules we set up help provide an environment that allows you to concentrate on your academic success, as well as your social pursuits. We encourage you to learn about yourself and make adult choices in your new community, while also taking the responsibility to make positive choices for both yourself and those living around you.
 
What can I bring to the Residence Hall?
Please review the What to Bring List detailing several ideas of what and what not to bring to the Residence Hall. Furniture provided in each bedroom includes two extra-long twin beds, two desks and chairs, and two four-drawer bureaus, while the suite common area has a table and chairs, a small couch and coffee table. We suggest contacting your future suitemates to see who is bringing what; that way you don't end up with doubles of shared items like televisions, refrigerators, etc. Also, we suggest you don't bring more than you think you'll absolutely need when you first move in. After all, you can always bring more stuff!

Is alcohol permitted in the Residence Hall?
No. The Residence Hall is part of a dry campus, including residents who are 21 and older. Likewise, illegal drugs and tobacco use are not allowed in the Residence Hall.

Can I stay in the Residence Hall over any official LCCC break periods?
Yes and no. Residents may stay in the Residence Hall during Thanksgiving Break and Spring Break at no additional charge. However, the Residence Hall is closed for the duration of Winter Break. While we are open during Thanksgiving Break and Spring Break, we encourage residents to take a break from the Residence Hall and relax somewhere off campus.

How can I get involved in the Residence Hall?
The Residence Hall council works together with the Residence Life staff to organize programs and events in the Residence Hall. Elections are held at the beginning of the academic year, and they are always open to new ideas, whether you're on the council or not!

How much does it cost to live in the Residence Hall for one academic year?
The price to live in the residence hall includes room, meal plan, utilities, cable television and high-speed Internet access. Click here for rates and more information.
 
How does the meal plan work?
Meal plans are included in the cost of the Residence Hall and are not optional. Residents are issued a student ID card, on which the meal card is loaded each semester. You will be given a certain number of "all you can eat" meals per week plus a number of "flex" dollars that can be spent on grab and go items. Click here for rates and more information.
 
Can I have guests visit?
Of course! Guests are welcomed in the Residence Hall, provided they sign in at the office and are escorted by their resident at all times. Visitation hours are ample and are posted throughout the Residence Hall.
 
When will I hear from housing? I have sent in my housing application and $100 deposit.
Emails go out the beginning of May to new, incoming students letting you know if you have a space reserved. Assignment packets are mailed out mid-July.
