The Laramie County Community College women’s soccer team
was ready to take the field on Sunday Sept. 15 against Trinidad State Junior College after the game against Otero Junior College was canceled the day before due to lightning. LCCC shut out the Trojans 8-0.
LCCC wasted little time getting on the board against Trinidad at Cheyenne South High School. Morgan Wyant put the Golden Eagles up in the 5th minute off an assist from Sayit Mejia-Bello. One minute later, Victoria Arenas gave the Golden Eagles an early 2-0 lead. With the Golden Eagles controlling the possession and applying the pressure, they were able to get two more goals before the half, one from Taylor Hockley and another from Sierra Kuno with assists from Halee Moore and Cheyanne Becerra.
The scoring did not stop in the second half as Mejia-Bello made it 5-0 in the 49th minute. Hockley would get her hat trick as she tacked on two more in the 51st and 61st minute on assists from Arenas. Defender Courtney Lemmon finished the scoring with the eighth and final goal for the Golden Eagles in the 80th minute. Hockley’s hat trick gives her seven goals for the year so far.
With the victory, the Golden Eagles improve to 6-1 on the year and 1-0 in Region IX. Next up for LCCC is a home match with Western Wyoming Community College at 4 p.m. Sept. 18 at LCCC.
