LCCC Haitian Relief Project earns nearly $2,500

Friday, April 16, 2010
Groups band together to create 624 health kits.

The Haitian Relief Project at Laramie County Community College was able to raise nearly $2,500 across campus.

The Service Learning program enlisted the help of Phi Theta Kappa, Rotaract Club, Associated Student Government and Skills USA. Each of these clubs held fundraisers or voted to support the cause by contributing funds. Jugs across campus gathered donations, many a nickel at a time. Employees joined the efforts by writing checks to the Foundation.

After the health supplies were bought, a group of students from Phi Theta Kappa and Rotaract Club had enough supplies to assemble 624 kits.

“It was a phenomenal sight,” said Jeri Gregio, LCCC service learning coordinator and instructor. “The students were really excited about participating in this worthwhile cause. There were enough hands to make the process flow smoothly and everything was assembled in about two hours. Thank you to everyone who contributed time, money or talent to make this happen.”
