College president resigns

Monday, November 29, 2010
Darrel Hammon's resignation will be effective Dec. 31.

At a special business meeting of the Laramie County Community College board of trustees Monday night, LCCC President Dr. Darrel Hammon submitted his resignation.

"With deep regret, I am submitting my letter of resignation, effective December 31, 2010," he said, reading from a prepared statement. "Laramie County Community College is a phenomenal institution with dedicated and committed faculty, staff, administrators and students. I wish the college well as it continues its important role as a comprehensive community college."”

Hammon's last day on campus will be Tuesday, Nov. 30. He will use the remainder of his vacation for the month of December. The college will follow standard procedure of vice presidents filling in as acting presidents until an interim or permanent replacement can be found.

After Dr. Hammon's statement, board member John Kaiser moved to accept the president's resignation. Board vice-chair George McIlvaine seconded the motion, and the motion carried unanimously.

"I think it would be appropriate for the board to recognize the dedication Dr. Hammon has given to the college," McIlvaine said after the president's resignation.
