Women's soccer team loses first game in last minute

Butler Community College gets final edge.
The seventh-ranked Golden Eagles women’s soccer team lost 1-0 to the fifth-ranked Butler Community College Grizzlies on Sept. 2 at LCCC. The Grizzlies pulled off the victory in final minute of the game.

With two nationally ranked teams playing, there was an abundance of nonstop action. As with most great soccer matches, this one was decided in the last minute of the game. The Grizzlies were awarded a corner kick in the 89th minute. BCC Alyssia Salinas crossed the corner kick to an on rushing Abby Ponce, who headed the ball into the Golden Eagles net for the eventual game-winning goal.

The women’s soccer team (0-1 overall, 0-0 Region IX) will travel to Council Bluffs, Iowa, to play Iowa Lakes Community College at 11 a.m. on Sept. 8, and then Iowa Western Community College at 2 p.m. on Sept. 9.
