Men’s soccer wins, loses and draws over the weekend

Golden Eagles split busy weekend.
The Laramie County Community College men’s soccer team traveled to Powell, Wyo., on Sept. 2 for its first conference game against Northwest College. The game ended in a 2-2 tie after two overtimes.

LCCC took the early lead. In the fourth minute Casey Allen scored from the right corner of the penalty box and was assisted by Cord Stimpson. The Trappers quickly answered with a breakaway goal in the 11th minute. In the 33rd minute the Golden Eagles converted a penalty kick scored by Cord Stimpson to take a 2-1 lead at halftime. The Trappers also had a penalty kick in the first half but it was blocked by Brandon Carrick.

Both teams struggled to gain control of the match in the second half, but in the 63rd minute, the Trappers scored the tying goal from a corner kick.

The men’s team then traveled to Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, to play two games in the Cardinal Classic, hosted by North Idaho College. The Golden Eagles first played Treasure Valley Community College on Sept. 4. The Golden Eagles took the victory 5-2.

The Chukars scored the first goal in the ninth minute of play while the Eagles struggled to gain control in the first half. LCCC was able to score a late goal by Guilherme Andrade, assisted by Colton Cook in the 35th minute to tie the score 1-1 at halftime.

LCCC changed up its formation in the second half and was able to take over the game, scoring three quick goals in six minutes. The first of the three goals was scored by Colton Cook in the 50thminute, unassisted; the second goal was made by Andrade, assisted by Marcelo Souza in the 52nd minute; the third goal was scored by Casey Allen, assisted by Tyler Arbuckle in the 56th minute. The Chukars got a late goal in the 70th minute, but was quickly countered by LCCC’s Jakob Baraket’s late goal in the 78th minute, assisted by Cord Stimpson.

LCCC played its second game of the Cardinal Classic on Sept. 5 against Chemeketa Community College. The Golden Eagles weren’t able to get anything going and took the first loss of the season, 4-1.

Right from the first whistle, LCCC was called for a penalty in the first minute of play and Chemeketa converted. The Golden Eagles came out flat and Chemeketa took advantage. Chemeketa scored two more quick goals and put LCCC on their heels, 3-0 at the half.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles put more pressure on the Chemeketa defense and Tyler Arbuckle was able to break through and score in the 72nd minute, assisted by Sam Hickman. With the Golden Eagles pushing up so many guys, Chemeketa was able to send a long ball to a lone forward who scored the last goal of the game.
