Current version of the GED® test expires in December

Laramie County Community College’s Adult Career and Education System (ACES) is informing the public that nationwide changes to the high-school equivalency testing, including the GED exam, mean that people who have started their testing must complete it by the end of 2013.

Additionally, beginning in January, computer-based testing is being implemented and various pathways to the Wyoming high school equivalency certificate (HSEC) may exist. The new HSEC test will be alighted with the College and Career Readiness Standards.

Kelly Willmarth, program director of ACES, says that she believes that the successful completion of these programs can open doors to college and better jobs, as well as providing the satisfaction of earning a high school equivalency credential. 

“Because of that, we want to be sure that everyone is aware of this deadline,” she said.

Those who have taken the 2002 Series GED test, but not passed all five parts, have until the end of 2013 to pass or they will need to start over again with a new test in order to receive their high school equivalency credential. The priority date to schedule testing is Dec. 2, because ACES closes on Dec. 19 for the winter holiday.
