What will I learn?

The Kinesiology & Health Promotion program is centered around the many aspects of human movement and its application to physical activity and the quality of one's life. This program is suggested for students who are interested in a career in exercise science, sports medicine, physical therapy, athletic training, physical education teacher, occupational therapy or related fields.

Students complete coursework that provides a solid knowledge base of human anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and health.

Program options are available depending on the student's interest and career goals. All students must complete the general education core.

Associate of Science

The Exercise Science track leads to an associate of science degree and is designed to provide students quality academic and professional preparation in the scientific study of human movement. The program offers a sound theoretical foundation and practical applications.

Exercise Science track students will:

  • Identify the structures and functions of the human body.
  • Demonstrate the relationships among physical activity, health and nutrition.
  • Identify methods to maintain health through injury prevention and rehabilitation.
  • Identify ways to maintain health throughout the human lifespan.
  • Demonstrate, teach and evaluate physical activity skills.
  • Demonstrate the basic principles and benefits of lifetime fitness.

What can I do with this degree?

While students must receive a bachelor's degree, many of these fields also require a master's degree or beyond.

Students are urged to study carefully the specific requirements of the institutions to which they plan to transfer. Please see an Exercise Science advisor for a suggested program map.

Credit Diploma

In this program, students will learn how to design, implement, and evaluate individual exercise programs; perform fitness assessments; and explain physiological changes that occur during exercise.

Available at the Cheyenne main campus.

What can I do with this degree?

At the completion of the Personal Trainer program, students may take the national certification exam which is an additional cost. Students who complete this certificate and pass the certifying agencies exam, which can be taken on the LCCC campus, can begin training clients while working on their AS or BS in Exercise Science.

Personal trainers who have been certified are eligible to be employed at any major health club such as Fitness 307, Gold's Gym and the YMCA. Students may also begin a private business as a personal trainer or work within organizations as health and wellness coaches.

Credit Diploma

Sport coaching is an emerging field with diverse content areas and athletic populations. Students examine philosophies, strategies, and approaches to coaching at various levels. Students combine sport specific content, scientific knowledge, and pedagogical practices in preparation for the continually changing world of coaching and athletics.

What can I do with this degree?

At the completion of the program, students will meet the requirements to coach in the state of Wyoming as a head or assistant coach. If a student currently holds a Wyoming Educator License, the student must apply to add a Coaching Endorsement to his/her Educator License. A Coaching Permit is for non-licensed individuals. The Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) sets these standards.
