CDL Program Frequently Asked Questions

Will you offer Class A or Class B CDL training?

LCCC offers CDL training for Class A and Class B commercial vehicles on a regular basis.

Will you offer CDL refresher courses?

Yes, which can also be customizable.

How many days or weeks is the training program?

Trainees will have 30 days to complete a 20-hour online course (theory) and attend (in-person) mandatory training (offered at regular increments). This additional training consists of short modules that are in addition to regular training. Upon completion trainees will obtain their CDL permit and will be scheduled for behind the wheel training lasting 3 weeks for day classes and 6 weeks for evening classes (depending on class size). Instructor to trainee ratio is 1:2.

How many total hours of CDL training will the student receive?

The course will consist of 100–140 hours. The hours are a mixture of online, simulator, classroom and behind-the-wheel training.

Who administers the final CDL examination?

LCCC has Third Party Examiners on staff to administer the final practical test. 

Do you provide part-time classes, full-time classes or both?

Full time courses are offered during regular business hours while part time classes are offered on evenings and weekends. Completing the part time course will take longer and is anticipated to take place Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings and all-day Saturdays. (Subject to change.)

Will there be any night-time driver training?

Night-time driving is part of the new curriculum along with inclement weather driving.

What kind of training equipment will be used (tractor-trailers, passenger bus, dump truck, etc.)?

The training is conducted in a tractor/semi-trailer with manual transmissions so no restrictions are applied to the driver license. The simulator training consists of multiple training modules with the capability of adding weight, weather, road, city, highway, along with various other driving scenarios/conditions. The simulator also allows options to choose trailers of various lengths while displaying views on five screens, providing a realistic feel for the driver in a virtual setting.

Do you offer any training for other endorsements such as HAZMAT, Tankers, Double and Triples?

We offer ELDT HAZMAT, and passenger endorsement training. The actual test for each endorsement will be 
administered by WYDOT Driver Services.

Do you offer job placement assistance for those who qualify?

Yes, there is job placement assistance through the college. Training is dedicated to job seeking strategies, such as resume writing, and interview preparation.

What kind of certificate/diploma will the student receive once the CDL training is completed?

The student receives a certificate of completion from the CDL program at LCCC. Upon successful completion of the CDL practical test, a CDL license will be issued by the State of Wyoming.
