CHEYENNE, Wyoming – Laramie County Community College (LCCC) recently partnered with members of F.E. Warren Air Force Base's Airman Leadership School (ALS) Class 26F to transform two classrooms into specialized healthcare training labs, expanding hands-on learning opportunities for students in the college's Health Sciences & Wellness (HSW) Pathway.  The newly renovated spaces will support the college's growing healthcare programs.

The renovation was a true community effort, bringing together 22 Airmen from F.E. Warren AFB's Airman Leadership School (ALS) Class 26F, faculty members from LCCC's Medical Assistant program, HSW leadership, and several family members who volunteered their time to help transform the classrooms into functional healthcare training spaces. The project was coordinated through a partnership between LCCC Associate Dean of Health Sciences & Wellness, Danielle Opp, and Senior Airman Ryann Dobrovolny, who worked together to organize the volunteer effort.

SrA Dobrovolny shared that the Airmen thoroughly enjoyed participating in the renovation and considered it one of the coolest community service projects their Airman Leadership School groups had been involved in. Their enthusiasm, combined with the dedication of LCCC faculty and family volunteers, helped bring the new learning spaces to life and demonstrated the impact of working together to support healthcare education in the community.

"This was a wonderful opportunity to bring together two organizations that are committed to serving our community," said Opp. "Our healthcare programs continue to grow, and having dedicated lab spaces allows us to provide students with the hands-on training they need to be successful. We are incredibly grateful to SrA Dobrovolny and the members of ALS Class 26F for giving their time and energy to help make these spaces a reality."

The renovations included the transformation of two classrooms in the Health Sciences Building, HS 205 and HS 210 into medical training labs designed to support practical, skills-based instruction. The additional lab capacity will help accommodate 48 new Medical Assistant students and support the expansion of LCCC's Cardiovascular Sonography program.

For members of ALS Class 26F, the project provided an opportunity to put leadership and teamwork into practice while contributing to an initiative that will have a lasting impact on healthcare education in the region.

The partnership reflects the strong relationship between LCCC and F.E. Warren AFB and highlights the important role community collaboration plays in preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals.

"These students will go on to serve patients and families throughout our community," Opp said. "Knowing that members of our local Air Force community helped create the spaces where they will learn and develop their skills makes this project especially meaningful."

The renovated labs were completed in August 2026 and are now available to support student learning. For more information about Health Sciences & Wellness programs at LCCC, reach out to hswFREELARAMIE.
