Concert brings together LCCC ensembles, Capital Chorale

CHEYENNE, Wyoming – A collaborative choral performance at Laramie County Community College will bring together student and community singers for an evening of emotionally charged music in early May.

LCCC Choirs and Cheyenne Capital Chorale will present “Light Beyond Shadow” at 7 p.m. May 2 in the Surbrugg/Prentice Auditorium on LCCC’s Cheyenne campus. The concert is open to the public. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.

The May 2 choir concert will bring together LCCC Choirs and the Cheyenne Capital Chorale, a community choir directed by Wade Holzapfel. Bethany Smith-Jacobs, LCCC choir director and voice instructor, said this first collaborative concert between the chorale and LCCC’s ensembles is not just an enjoyable event for the community — students will learn from it.

“Bringing our singers together with the Cheyenne Capital Chorale gives students the chance to take on more challenging repertoire and creates a powerful sound that really fits this program,” she said.

Featured selections in “Light Beyond Shadow” will include “Sogno di Volare” from the video game “Civilization VI” and Eric Whitacre’s “Sleep.” The program’s music leans into a theme of darkness, hope and emotional weight, with Smith-Jacobs describing the selections as expressive and deeply moving.
