Vocal Showcase to highlight collaboration and musical range

Choir on stage singing during a concertCHEYENNE, Wyoming – An inspiring display of vocal and instrumental talent will fill the Surbrugg/Prentice Auditorium as Laramie County Community College presents the annual "Vocal Showcase" at 3 p.m. Nov. 16 on the college’s Cheyenne campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

Featuring performances by LCCC’s Collegiate Chorale, Cantorei, Jazz Ensemble and student soloists, this year’s showcase offers a dynamic mix of classical, contemporary and jazz selections.

Guest artists will also share the stage with LCCC musicians, including flutist Rosemarie Harding performing a solo with the Collegiate Chorale on the Hebrew folk song "Hine Ma Tov." A percussionist will join the tenors and basses for Kyle Pederson’s lively "Bringers of Noise," while the sopranos and altos perform the poignant "She Sings..." by Amy Bernon.

Cantorei, under the direction of LCCC voice instructor Julie Koenig, will join the Jazz Ensemble for a spirited second half featuring vocal jazz favorites such as "I Could Write a Book," arranged by the acclaimed group New York Voices. The collaboration brings together instrumental and vocal students for a vibrant, cross-genre performance.

Adding to the program’s collaborative spirit, Sean Ambrose, Cheyenne Chamber Singers director, will conduct one of the Collegiate Chorale’s selections after working with the ensemble throughout the semester.

“The Vocal Showcase reflects everything we love about making music at LCCC,” said Bethany Smith-Jacobs, LCCC choir director and voice instructor. “Our students are performing an incredible variety of repertoire this year, and they’ve had the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with outstanding faculty and guest artists. The result is a concert that’s both musically diverse and deeply connected to our community.”
