LCCC Hosts Final Two Concerts of the Spring Semester with Chicago-based Special Guests, Alliance Brass
CHEYENNE, Wyoming – The Laramie County Community College Jazz Ensemble, faculty jazz
quintet, faculty brass quartet and guest artist Alliance Brass will perform as part
of the last two concerts of the spring semester. Both concerts will be held at the
Surbrugg/Prentice Auditorium on the campus of LCCC in Cheyenne.
At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, the LCCC Jazz Ensemble and Faculty Jazz Quintet will performing an evening of jazz music. The ensemble is composed of students and community members who will perform contemporary arrangements of jazz standards. The group is directed by Dr. Frank Cook and will feature many LCCC students, including vocal music major Danielle Beightol on an arrangement of Orange Colored Sky, made famous by Nat King Cole. This concert will also feature the LCCC Faculty Jazz Quintet who will play jazz and soul arrangements from the American Songbook, performed in the small jazz ensemble tradition. This concert is free and open to the public.
“We look forward to highlighting the great work put in by our students as they perform in their last concert of the semester. Their growth and development over the last year as been amazing, and this concert will be a great way to highlight their success,” said Michael Lange, Director of Fine & Performing Arts at LCCC.
At 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, the LCCC Music Department, in collaboration with the Southeast Wyoming Concert Series, will be presenting Alliance Brass, a Chicago-based brass quartet featuring some of the best brass players from the Midwest. The LCCC Faculty Brass Quartet will also be performing with the Alliance Brass on their final selection, Montagues and Capulets from Romeo and Juliet, by Sergi Prokofiev and arranged by Alliance Brass trumpet player Chris O’Hara specially for this concert.
The May 8 concert with Alliance Brass will mark the end of 90 years of presenting concerts by the Southeast Wyoming Concert Series. Starting in the fall of 2025, LCCC will be taking over the concert series and this event will serve as the final “hand-off” of the series. All audience members are invited to attend a reception following the concert to celebrate the great work of the Southeast Concert Series and their service to the Cheyenne community for the last 90 years.
