Acclaimed author Michael Punke to visit LCCC for Dineen Writer Series
CHEYENNE, Wyoming – Acclaimed author Michael Punke, best known for writing “The Revenant,”
which inspired the Academy Award-winning film, will visit Laramie County Community
College for a special event later this month.
A daytime session for students and classes is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., followed by a public presentation at 7 p.m. Mar. 26, in the Surbrugg/Prentice Auditorium on the college’s Cheyenne campus. Both events are free and open to the public. Guests can RSVP at lccc.wy.edu/CulturalSeries.
Punke, a Wyoming native, is widely recognized for his work exploring the history and culture of the American West. His books include The Revenant, Fire & Brimstone, Last Stand, and Ridgeline, which received the 2022 Spur Award for Best Historical Novel. His expertise has also been featured in documentary projects such as Ken Burns’ “The American Buffalo” and Kevin Costner’s “The West.”
In addition to his writing, Punke has spent more than 30 years in public service, including serving as the U.S. Ambassador to the World Trade Organization. He now leads global public policy efforts at Amazon Web Services.
Punke’s novel “The Revenant” was adapted into the 2015 film of the same name, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The film earned multiple Academy Awards, including Best Actor for DiCaprio.
Books will be available for purchase, and attendees will have the opportunity to meet Punke and have books signed following the evening presentation.
The Dineen Writer Series is part of the LCCC Foundation’s Cultural Series, which brings authors, artists, and speakers to campus. The LCCC Foundation supports scholarships, programs, and events that expand opportunities for students and the community.
