High school artists showing at LCCC for LCSD1 art show
CHEYENNE, Wyoming – Cheyenne’s high school artists will claim the gallery walls at
Laramie County Community College in March for the annual LCSD1 High School Art Show.
The exhibition will be on display Mar. 2-29 in the Esther and John Clay Fine Art Gallery on LCCC’s Cheyenne campus. A public reception is set for 6-7:30 p.m. Mar. 12 in the gallery and adjoining lobby. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
The annual show highlights work created by high school art students from throughout the district, offering them the opportunity to present their artwork in a professional gallery setting while inviting the broader community to celebrate their creativity and achievement.
Young artists benefit from sharing their work within their own communities and seeing it celebrated, said Nicole Cameron, East High School art teacher. For students considering studying art after high school, Cameron said exhibiting at LCCC offers a firsthand look at what college-level art education can provide.
“Participating in this show is a privilege,” she said. “It allows students who have been working at a higher level have an extra chance to display their work in a professional gallery setting.”
Now in its fifth year, the high school art show is the gallery’s highlight each year for coordinator and LCCC art instructor Daniel Maw.
“The show is an opportunity to deepen connections with our high schools, and it's been fun to meet high school students while installing the show who then become my students later,” Maw said. “I love seeing their families and the community come out to support them. I also coordinate with the Financial Aid office to award a couple of scholarships at the reception, which makes that night all the more special and exciting.”
Visitors can expect to see more than 100 pieces of art, ranging from clay pottery and sculptures to paintings, drawings, fabric works and digital art. Past exhibitions have included unique pieces such as wood-burnings, painted car doors, glassworks and hanging sculptures, offering something for every art enthusiast.
