LCCC Esports team to get new jerseys with NJCAA grant

Two Esports athletes competing in jerseys on computers with headsetsCHEYENNE, Wyoming – A grant from the National Junior College Athletic Association Foundation will help Laramie County Community College’s national title-winning Esports team purchase replacement jerseys.

The $1,250 grant, awarded through the NJCAA Foundation, supports the Esports program, which expands collegiate athletics opportunities for students at LCCC.

The Golden Eagles are coming off a Spring season that saw the team finish the year with multiple top-10 national finishers in the NJCAAE.  Their Fall 2026 season looks to be even stronger with some big signings for the team that should put them squarely in the hunt for some national titles.

Support from the NJCAA Foundation helps strengthen opportunities for LCCC student-athletes while reinforcing the role collegiate athletics plays in higher education, said Gary Addington, LCCC Athletics Director.

“We are very grateful to the NJCAA Foundation for their investment in Laramie County Community College and in the growth of Esports as part of the collegiate athletics experience,” Addington said. “This grant reinforces the vital role the NJCAA plays in higher education by providing access, opportunity and a pathway for student-athletes to grow both competitively and personally.”

At LCCC, athletics is built around academic achievement, personal development, accountability and teamwork, Addington said. Esports extends those same values into a competitive space that connects with students in meaningful ways and broadens access to the benefits of collegiate athletics.

The grant reflects the NJCAA Foundation’s broader effort to support member colleges and the opportunities they create for student-athletes, said Andrew Givens, NJCAA Foundation executive director.

“The NJCAA Foundation is excited to further support the growth of NJCAA member colleges and the sport programs they offer through the NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant,” Givens said.  “The ability to provide this funding is a testament to the importance and growth of two-year collegiate athletics. The NJCAA Foundation looks forward to this initiative’s impact as NJCAA member colleges continue to create opportunities for student-athletes across the country.”

Through the NJCAA, colleges such as LCCC can offer student-athletes competitive experiences that support personal development, leadership and academic success. At LCCC, Esports has become part of that broader mission, giving students the chance to compete as a team and contribute to the college community.
