Frequently Asked Questions
Who will help students enroll in Accelerate?
Students interested in participating in LCCC Accelerate will have access to the online application for the program. If they need additional assistance, students can work with their HS counselor, an LCCC Student Success Coach or the Director of College and Career Transitions at LCCC for assistance.
Who will help students enroll at LCCC?
LCCC Success Coaches will visit the local high schools and assist LCCC Accelerate participants with applying to LCCC.
How many students can participate?
There will be three (3) cohorts of students participating in the LCCC Accelerate program. Each cohort will be approximately 100 students and will be established in the students sophomore year of High School, beginning 2025. Students will be active in the program their junior and senior years of High School.
How long is the commitment if I participate?
Students will apply for the program during their sophomore year and will participate in strategically aligned dual and concurrent courses during their junior and senior years. If students successfully complete the LCCC Accelerate program requirements and continue onto LCCC for college, immediately after high school, they will receive a tuition and fees scholarship for one year.
Can students still take dual enrollment/concurrent enrollment courses without being part of Accelerate?
Yes, students who are not in the LCCC Accelerate program can still take unlimited concurrent classes at their high school. They can also still take up to four free dual enrollment courses at no cost to the student. The structure of these offerings will not change or be impacted by the Accelerate program.
What does career exploration look like?
Participants in the Accelerate program will engage in six (6) workshops throughout their sophomore year in high school. These workshops will explore career opportunities and goals, it will evaluate where students are currently successful academically and what additional courses would be needed to reach their desired college degree.
What if a student has already taken dual or concurrent courses?
If a student has completed dual or concurrent enrollment courses prior to their enrollment in LCCC Accelerate, they can still participate in the program. During the co-advising sessions an LCCC Success Coach and their HS counselor will review the Accelerate On-ramps and previous courses to make appropriate adjustments to the students individualized success plan.
What happens if a student moves to another school in LCSD1, while enrolled in Accelerate?
If a student changes to another high school in LCSD1 participating in the pilot program (Central, East, South & Triumph), while participating in LCCC Accelerate, their participation status will not change.
What happens if a student moves out of the LCSD1 district while enrolled in Accelerate?
At this time, LCCC Accelerate is only for enrolled students at Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, Cheyenne South and Triumph. If a student moves to another LCCC service area school (LCSD2, ACSD, or Homeschool), they will no longer be eligible for the Accelerate program, but can still participate in concurrent enrollment courses and can take up to four free dual enrollment courses. If a student wishes to take more than four dual enrollment courses, students will then self-pay for the additional courses.
What happens if a student wants to change programs/Pathway after they have started Accelerate?
We understand that during the co-advising process and after students start taking courses, they may determine they are not in their desired Pathway. Many of the recommended courses for a student in their junior year are general education requirements and will align with multiple Pathways, minimizing the impact of changing Pathways. If a student does change Pathways, there is a risk a course may no longer apply to their program requirements and instead be an elective. Changing Pathways or programs, may reduce the number of credits a student will earn while in high school.
What if a student has a D or F in a course, can they continue in the program?
Yes, a student is welcome to remain in Accelerate and retake the course either in the next semester or over the summer to improve their grade. If a student receives a D or F in the same course twice or in two separate courses, they will not be able to continue in the Accelerate program. We want the students to have a positive and successful post-secondary experience, which includes being successful in their academic pursuits.
What if I don’t have transportation to get to LCCC for a dual class?
We understand this is a concern for some of our students. We are currently exploring how LCCC and LCSD1 can assist with transportation. Once students register for courses in the spring 2026, we will have a better understanding of this need and can identify paths to support students.
What type of technology is provided? What does a participant have to provide?
Students enrolled in concurrent courses will utilize their LCSD1 issued iPads, completing coursework in Classlink and in Canvas. Students enrolled in dual enrollment courses will log into a LCCC Canvas shell through their myLCCC for course information, this can also be accessed on their LCSD1 issued iPads. There are no book fees for concurrent courses.
Am I required to take summer classes if I am in Accelerate?
No, students are not required to take summer courses. However, if a student received a D or F in a class, they could potentially retake that course over the summer (dependent on availability).
