From President Schaffer

As I reflect on another year at Laramie County Community College, I am struck by the many ways our students, faculty and staff continue to embrace change while remaining grounded in our mission: transforming lives through the power of inspired learning. Our mission is not static; it evolves with the needs of our students and the world around us. In this year’s Talon Magazine, we are excited to show how we are putting our mission into action.

Across campus, we are finding new ways to remove barriers and create meaningful opportunities. One powerful example is the growing adoption of open educational resources (OER) by our faculty. It is a profound shift – one that reflects a determined commitment to student success. You will also read about programs that redefine what the college experience can look like. In our Auto Technology program, students like Jaya Brown are discovering that learning is not confined to textbooks and lectures. Instead, students are gaining hands-on experience, building confidence and preparing for careers that match their skills and passions.

For our students, the spirit of transformation continues well beyond graduation. We reconnect with alumna Jennifer Ackerman, whose journey at LCCC helped position her for a leadership role right here at our college. Her story reflects something we see often – students who come to LCCC to grow their careers and ultimately return to invest in others. And, of course, at the heart of every student success story is a dedicated educator. Faculty like Carole Boughton, a trailblazer in providing dynamic and inspiring
programs that prepare students for the future, represents the very best of LCCC.

This edition also highlights the relationships that make the college experience so impactful. Whether it is two student-athletes from different parts of the world forming a lasting friendship, or music students discovering their creative voice and future direction, these connections remind us that education extends far beyond the classroom. It is about growth and building confidence to pursue what comes next.

A favorite quote of mine is from Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” At LCCC, we believe our role is to open doors to a better future.

Thank you for your continued support of Laramie County Community College. Together, we are not only meeting the challenges of today; we are shaping the possibilities of tomorrow.

All the Best,

Dr. Joe Schaffer
